Maurer Degaussing Technologie
Im 2001 we developed the Maurer-Degaussing ® method at the request of a big Japanese manufacturer, for its innovative serial production of electron beam television tubes. None of the internationally established demagnetizing service providers wanted to take up the challenge. In view of the goods to be demagnetized, and the requirement for process reliability in fully automated production, the project would need new standards to be set. With state-of-the-art, high performance electronics, plus innovative ideas and many years’ experience in the field of magnetism, we achieved this goal after a development phase of only one year. The result is the Maurer-Degaussing® pulsed demagnetizing method. Maurer-Degaussing® technology is now protected by multiple patents worldwide. On the basis of this demagnetizing process we offer international customers a comprehensive product program, geared to the manufacturing industry, for the demagnetizing of ferromagnetic parts.
Thoroughly demagnetized, fully automatically, within seconds – the Maurer Degaussing® process is equally suited for use in fully automated production processes or for manual operation. The controlled alternating field profile, high productivity and complete reproducibility make Maurer-Degaussing® ideal for industrial applications.
Our Maurer-Degaussing® method works with an alternating magnetic field generated in the demagnetizing coil. The very powerful magnetic field, the high precision, symmetry, and appropriate amplitude / frequency achieve results which are unequalled today. The magnetic behavior of the treated ferromagnetic materials becomes so neutral that familiar phenomena such as e.g re-magnetization of parts during transport or further along the production line are eliminated. We describe this complete neutralization of the magnetic structure within the material as Curiezed®. With these new properties, undesirable, repeatedly occurring magnetic effects are finally banished. These included frequent disruptions like parts “sticking together” during separation, particle adhesion during washing and galvanizing processes, and arc deflection in electron beam welding, re-magnetization during manufacturing processes like honing, grinding, milling, pressing, stamping, welding, galvanizing, inductive testing, etc.. Curiezing is so effective that even magnetic “self-healing” has been observed. After demagnetizing – Curiezing – the measured magnetic values approach the very lowest range of residual magnetism, unlike parts that undergo conventional demagnetizing methods, which re-magnetize after treatment.
Other benefits are the easy processing of bulk goods, whole modules, large parts and whole machine tools. In the aerospace and military sectors, too, our new method provides valuable services in magnetic cleanliness.
As a manufacturer of demagnetizing machines, Maurer Magnetic AG aims to provide the best, most effective demagnetizing process. The demagnetizers work on the alternating field principle, coils are used to generate the magnetic field. With larger demagnetizing coils, reactive power consumption and power ratings increase very quickly, not infrequently to values over 50 A at 400 VAC. In conventional coils, electrical current is converted to magnetic field strength at a very unfavorable reactive current ratio. Maurer Magnetic AG has found a solution to this challenge, and with coils used in our Comfort and Premium solutions – where high field strengths have to be generated – we use FMT® - FIELD MULTIPLICATOR TECHNOLOGY.
In the demagnetizing process, parts have to pass through a demagnetizing coil, or at least be brought close to one. ferromagnetic material near a coil causes reduced current flow because of changed inductance, thus reducing the effectiveness of the demagnetizing process. This physical effect becomes more pronounced with dense filling of the coil. To counteract this effect, Maurer Magnetic AG has developed and patented the innovation CFT® - CONSTANT FIELD TECHNOLOGY. This technology is used in coils of the Standard Series in Maurer Degaussing®. Demagnetizers with CFT® - CONSTANT FIELD TECHNOLOGY are especially suitable for applications with dense filling. This is demonstrated by the successes achieved, for instance in demagnetizing tubes or bars.
Our newly-developed function AFDT (patent pending) “Automatic Field Decline Technology” is already used in the classic series Classic+ . The special feature of this process: after switch-off, the alternating magnetic field is not abruptly interrupted, as in conventional machines, but its amplitude is slowly reduced. For the user, this function has the following advantages over conventional demagnetizers:
- No unintended magnetization of parts when switching-off
- Option of demagnetizing parts with the pulse function without moving them
- When using the field decline function, no outflow zone is needed after passing the operating area.
- Secure process in manual operation, because operating errors do not result in magnetization of parts.
